Q&A: what can I put on my manual lawn aerator to keep dirt from sticking in the tubes?

Question by brainiac: what can I put on my manual lawn aerator to keep dirt from sticking in the tubes?
Is there anything I can use like grease or WD-40 or wax?

after 10 uses one side gets fully plugged with dirt so it is not removing any soil.

and it is VERY difficult to remove the soil when the tube is full

the soil is heavy clay in spots

thank you

I would call and ask a landscaping company. They wood know. I have used aerators myself but the tubes never clogged fully.

What do you think? Answer below!

lawn-aerator-attachment.com Coring lawn aeration in slow motion with the Aeroller lawn aerator attachment. Aeroller converts many front-tine garden tillers into core lawn aerators.

WD-40 or wax or grease or any other kind of lubricant will just wear off the second time it goes in the ground. Notice how the aerator tubes are shiny when you use them for a while, this is from the soil being abrasive and wearing off a very small amount of the steel. I would think that if their is enough moisture in the soil then it would work better than if it was really dry, as the moisture would act as the lubricant. My answer is to try it at a different moisture level than you have previously tried.
