Get some Vigoro weed and feed. The bare spots need some Scotts Patchmaster. Very important that you read the instructions for the best outcome.

Overseed with Scotts patchmaster first then put down a good multi-purpose Fertilizer (Scott’s bonus S works well for us) water in and wait two weeks. Then put a good insectacide down. We use ortho multi, and repeat this cycle monthly. You will have a great looking lawn within three months.

Start with a good power raking to loosen up the very top layer and remove thatch…use a granular weed killer in early spring to stop most weeds early…the sooner you stop them, the less weeds you’ll have…finally use a grass seed that matches your specific needs(shady, full sun,or an all purpose mix)Keep the area moist for best germination by covering with straw or some other mulch in a layer thin enough to let the seed start, yet keeps it moist. Remember that grass seedlings are very tender…keep well watered, and DON’T walk on the new area unless you have to.

Aeration in spring and fall, then a good application of soil pep (or other good organic material) every year or two (immediately after aeration) rake in 1/4″…a good high nitrogen fertilizer application after winter (I use Ammonium Sulfate 25-0-0)…..and a good weed killer application (2-4-D) after temp’s–are above 65 degrees, but below 80 degrees.
